A little over half an hour takes you to the medieval university city of Coimbra, Portugal’s third city, its winding streets and cute little squares lively but at the same time laid back. Here you will find ample fine dining with a backdrop of ancient architecture.
Currently under construction is a new metro system, to link Serpins and Lousã with the city of Coimbra. This will surely push up property prices.
The Serra da Lousã and surrounding countryside is widely recognised as among the most enchanting in Portugal. It is especially noted for the ‘lost’ slate mountain villages and wild swimming in the warm, clear rivers and lakes – the river beaches are one of the main delights of this area. There are many other outdoor activities, such as kayaking, mountain biking, fishing. The vast golden beaches of the Costa de Prata (Silver Coast) are a little over an hour by car.
